Solden, Austria

March 8-16, 2019 • SOLD OUT!  Call for Cancellations

Solden, AT Mar 8-16, 2019

Think big, think Solden!  Solden, Austria checks off ALL the boxes for an incredible ski vacation.  A World Cup venue, there is so much terrain for all levels, with great groomers, steeps, bowls, and incredible off-piste that you’ll never ski the same thing twice. Two lift-accessed glaciers above the resort assures great snow all season and an extensive network of slopes with an equally impressive lift system.  More than 30 mountain huts dot the hillsides.  The après and nightlife scene is plentiful with over 80 buzzing bars and clubs lining the main streets.  From 3-7pm the village turns into party central (Solden has a notorious après reputation) with open-air bars and clubs and a lively crowd.   After dinner the nightlife continues.  If you are not looking to party, relax in your hotel.

The scenery is so spectacular it was chosen for James Bond’s movie,  ‘Spectre’.  Enjoy breathtaking views from the summit, or even lunch in the new Ice Q restaurant on the Gaislachkogl Peak before taking one of the long runs back to town. The ski route from Schwarze Schneide at the Rettenbach Glacier down to Sölden is the region's longest ski trail at 9 miles!

Top it off with charming culture, friendly people, great food, and our hotel in center of town.   Solden has it all.  SOLD OUT - CALL FOR CANCELLATIONS

  • Is this for singles or couples?

Both.  Most of the people on all of our trips are single.  We do get couples as well, but mostly singles.  Some come with a friend or two, and MANY come solo.  That is why our trips work.   They are great for everybody.  You will meet many new friends whether coming alone, with a friend, or even a significant other.

  • Can I go solo?

Of course!  Many of or travelers go solo, that is why our trips work!  We match roommates so you do not have to pay a single room supplement, and it’s an instant friend.   We send along a trip leader/s to gather folks to ski, après, dine, nightlife, sightsee, together.  Trips are not cliquey.  If you want to meet new people, make new friends, going solo is a great way to go.  We don’t make you do anything, but if you want to meet and hang with others, it is there for you.  If you want to do your own thing, that is okay as well.

  • What is the age range? Are they all 20s- early 30s?

Age varies from trip to trip, but on vacations the age range is more in the 35-50 age range.  Some older, some younger, but the majority will be in the 35-50 range.

  • Hotel/sleeping arrangements?

We are staying in a typical hotel, with 2 beds and two people per room.  If going solo, we will match you with same gender, same age (close as possible), smoker/non-smoker.  We do not match opposite genders, unless requested by both people.  OR you may request to be matched up with a friend or significant other as you wish, of any gender.  You may also chose to pay for a single room at an extra cost of $350, based on availability.

  • I snore/what if my roommate snores?

If you know you snore, you may want to be considerate and pay to get yourself a single room, or bring earplugs for your roommate.  If you are worried about your roommate snoring, you may want to consider paying for a single room or bringing ear plugs.  A single room is an extra $350, based on availability.

  • Will there be people to après/dine/hang out with?

Yes!  Trip leader/s will arrange daily meetings to ski together, to meet for après ski, for nightlife, etc.  The nice thing about the Solden ski trip are dinners are as a group at the hotel so you are all eating together.  Great way to meet everybody, talk about the day, and make plans for nightlife, and/or next day’s plans.  We don’t make anybody do anything, but if you want company, it will be there.

  • Should I hire a ski guide?

It is a personal choice, but we do recommend it.  Solden is quite large, the best way to navigate the area and find the best runs is to hire ski guides.  And it is not just for experts.    Intermediates will get a lot out of hiring guides as well.  You’ll get the most skiing on the best runs without wasting valuable time trying to figure the place out.  And advanced and experts will certainly enjoy the off-pistes as only the local guides know.  As we get closer to the trip we will let you know more details about it.

  • How far is it from the airport to hotel?

We fly into Munich, and it is about 3 hours to the hotel.

  • Should I rent or bring my own skis/board?

This is a personal choice.   For baggage, we are at the mercy of the airlines baggage regulations.  You should check their website for up-to-date regulations. Currently on Lufthansa skis/boards are considered a checked bag, sports equipment, and as a 2nd bag will cost $150 each way. A boot bag is considered part of the ski bag. So if you are bringing a suitcase to check, and your skis/boards it will cost you $300 to bring your skis/board. Rentals are usually around $30-50 a day…so could be about $300 to rent for the week.  A bit more for demos.  If you LOVE your skis, bring them.  But you have to lug them.  If not, rent, but you have to go through the rental procedure.  We recommend bringing your boots.  So, you do the math, weigh the hassles of bringing with the hassles of renting and you decide.  There are rental shops close to the hotel, just google ski rentals Solden.  If you rent online there is usually a discount.
