Make the most of your time at home with these BSSC tips
Many of us are confined to our homes in a responsible effort to practice social distancing. Flooded with news, worry and toilet paper panic, quarantine may seem endless. Here is how to make the most of your time at home.
MAINTAIN A SCHEDULE
Whether you are in a work-from-home situation or not, strive to maintain a daily routine during the week and stick to it. Don’t have a routine or know where to start thinking of one? This is a great time to learn what works best for you and your own daily schedule. Going to bed and waking up at a consistent time will aid in sleep quality and break your days up. Showering and getting dressed in the morning is vital to getting into the mindset for a productive day.
WORKING FROM HOME
If you are working from home, it can be surprisingly difficult if you are not sure of what works best for you. Find a space to designate for work (away from your rest space.) This can be a table, corner, whatever suits your home. Schedule time to work and time for yourself to eat, move, relax. Separating these is crucial for keeping your home and business life from fogging together, which can lead to burnout quickly.
NOURISH YOUR BODY
Confinement with all your food can make it incredibly tempting to snack or graze all day. Try your best to stick to your eating habits of a typical day and stick to separate meals with minimal boredom snacking. Maybe take this time to slow down, find a recipe, and cook yourself something nutritious and satisfying. Keep a water bottle around to sip on throughout the day to stay hydrated.
MOVE YOUR BODY
Gyms and running trails are far from the only ways to get some movement into your day. Home workouts are effective and easily done with minimal space, time and equipment. YouTube has endless varieties of workouts from yoga or pilates to HIIT and core focused. Get your cardio in and strengthen your legs and glutes for return of soccer, volleyball, and more by jumping rope in place for about 20 minutes. Try adding intervals to take it up a notch (and maybe being extra nice to your downstairs neighbor after this.) Stay fit with us! Post your workouts wearing your BSSC shirt using #BSSC to share on social and stay healthy and active with other players. Try these top exercises without gyms or equipment.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Leagues may be paused for now, but you can be prepared for when they come back! Learn a new game or sport while you have the time to read into the rules. When you’re ready to hit the fields and courts again, try something new with some friends, such as Kickball or Softball. Both have relatively easy rulesets and awesome new social leagues. Or try a few skills to focus on improving. Increase your vertical, ball handling skills, and footwork can all be done now.
TAKE A MOMENT TO SLOW DOWN
While certainly not a vacation by any means, quarantine may have a silver lining for many on-the-go people who are now spending most of their time at home. We live in such a fast-paced society that it becomes all too easy to forget the small things. Take time to show your pet some extra attention or give an old friend a call that you haven’t spoken to in a while. This is also an opportunity to tune into your thoughts or meditate and reflect on your goals, mental health, how you’ve been treating others, etc.
SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS
Feeling the urge to shop online while you have some time to browse? Try seeking out small business in your area or online that create or supply the products you’re interested in. Supporting local and small businesses in a time of economic uncertainty means supporting your community and the families running those businesses. You may even find some new favorite brands. Many local favorites are still open for takeout. Our friends at Harpoon are offering pick up or delivery of food and packaged beer, cider, and hard seltzer at both of their breweries.
