Kickball is so much better as an adult. Here’s why, but you’ll have to see for yourself
You might remember kickball from your elementary school days. In fact, many of today’s adults remember the excitement and sheer joy that followed the PE teacher’s announcement that kickball was on the agenda. There’s a reason why it’s one of the most popular sports in PE classes across the country, and there are even more reasons why it’s still awesome to play kickball as an adult.
It's "The People's Sport"
Kickball is widely referred to as “The People’s Sport” because absolutely anyone can play. Unlike football, baseball, and soccer, there are no specialized positions to train for, and you don’t have to be 100% fit to rule the field. The only equipment you need includes a ball, bases, and a good pair of shoes to really enjoy this one-of-a-kind sport that meshes dodgeball with baseball in a unique and fun way.
Homeruns are Easy
If you’ve ever played softball or baseball, there’s a good chance you’re aware of how difficult it is to get the ball over the fence and score yourself a homerun. When it comes to kickball, though, things are different. First, the ball is so very bouncy that it’ll travel quite a long way with very minimal effort. What’s more, you’re using the largest set of muscles in your body to launch that ball. All you have to do is get your foot along the bottom curve of the ball and give it a firm kick, and the next thing you know, you’ve run all four bases and scored for your team.
You Can't Really Strike Out
Unlike baseball, which has a fairly small strike zone, kickball’s strike zone should have its own area code. It’s almost impossible for you to strike out, which means you don’t have to worry about letting your team down in that regard. Just keep your eye on the (rather large) ball, and you’re sure to at least make contact. Just make sure you don’t kick it directly to someone in the outfield, because if they catch it, it’s an out.
It's a Outstanding Way to Socialize
If you’re not one to hang out at a bar or coffee shop on the weeknights passing time, then adult amateur sports might be the perfect alternative for you. You can meet up with others who enjoy the same sports and activities as you, make new friends, grow your professional network, and just have an all-around good time on weeknights you might otherwise be at home in front of the TV.
Adult Kickball Leagues are for Everyone
Finally, adult kickball leagues in and around the Boston area have some 100 different teams you can join for a little friendly competition. Games take place in various locations, including Boston itself, Brighton, Cambridge, South Boston, Newton, and more. Through the Boston Ski + Sports Club, you can play from May to November, but be sure to register now to secure your spot for the night of your choice.
Kickball is widely regarded as an elementary school kids’ sport, but that is absolutely not the case. In fact, kickball is one of the absolute best ways to get your daily exercise in and have a little fun at the same time! You can socialize, enjoy a little competitiveness, and even make a few new friends. So if you’re looking for a fun warm weather activity to keep you busy, an adult kickball league with BSSC is a great option.
