Best BSSC Team Names of 2024

 

Each year, thousands of adult recreational sports teams participate in Boston Ski & Sports Club (BSSC) leagues and tournaments. During our busy outdoor season, over 800 teams play per week. With such a wide array of team names to choose from, picking the best team names of 2024 was a difficult task. Many great team names involve references to pop culture, wordplay, or jargon related to their respective sport. Here are our nominees for the best sports team names from this past year:

5) Kickelob Ultra – Kickball

Kickball’s lone nominee for best BSSC team name of 2024 involves wordplay referencing the popular beer, Michelob Ultra. They sound like they would be a fun team to play with on the diamond!

4) Past Our Primetime – Flag Football

This team recognizes they are no longer the youthful squad they once were and are totally comfortable embracing their veteran status! With so many popular football games televised at primetime, it is easy to see why this punny name made the list.

3) How I Set Your Mother – Volleyball

This awesome name combines a pop culture reference with wordplay and sport terminology. Simply changing the word “met” to “set” in the title of the lovable 2000s sitcom results in this hilarious volleyball squad name.

2) Kobe Wan Kenobi – Basketball

Any Star Wars fan would enjoy this team name that incorporates the famous Jedi master and pairs it with the late Los Angeles Lakers star, Kobe Bryant. As Boston fans we would’ve preferred a punnier reference to a Celtic legend, but this name is too clever to be omitted from our list.

1) Here Come the Runs – Softball

Leave it to the softball jokesters to come up with a team name that is mildly inappropriate. Nevertheless, the best team name of 2024 takes the double entendre associated with runs and pairs it with an allusion to the widely known Beatles hit. I just hope you’re not singing this version of the song all the way to the restroom.
