Ultimate Frisbee Leagues Overview

Join BSSC in this fun, always social sport. The men and women who register for our leagues meet weekly and mix it up to form new teams to play multiple games each night. Playing with and against different combinations of players keeps it fresh and friendly! Leagues start in April, June & September each year.  Don’t miss out!

Ultimate Frisbee, or simply Ultimate, is a non-contact sport with rules like most other team sports. While there may be a lot of running involved, there is no moving while holding the disc. And, like football, points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing team’s end zone.

We welcome players of all skill levels. You don’t need to have previous playing experience. But you should plan to join your teammates to grab a bite to eat and a few drinks after the game.

Things to know

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of cleats can I wear?

Because we play on all artificial turf fields, we do not allow the use of metal spikes (aka “soft ground” cleats).  All “firm ground,” turf cleats, indoor soccer shoes and running shoes are acceptable and appropriate options.

What if the weather is bad – When will you cancel my game?

You should always be ready to play! Cancellations depend upon the playability of a field, the risk of lightning, and/or an edict of the permitting authority – not whether it is raining or snowing. We use a lot of turf or synthetic grass fields, so games are rarely cancelled. In general, Softball & Kickball games are not cancelled until fields become “unplayable”. In winter, snow may dictate cancellations due to school closings, un-plowed parking lots, or if overall conditions become problematic.

Because conditions & weather can change quickly in New England, we make updates as necessary (24/7). We suggest you check before heading out to your league. Cancellation notices are emailed to all rostered league players when a decision is made, and a message is posted to our weather cancellation phone line, 617.789.4070, ext. 700.

I am not a great athlete – Can I still play?

Yes, all skill levels are welcome! If you are new to a sport (or rusty), we recommend you have some basic knowledge of the sport, unless it’s designated for beginners or includes instruction. When you register, we ask you to rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 5 (1= beginner). This helps us keep the teams fairly equal and competitive. Some leagues have multiple divisions where the highest divisions consist of seasoned BSSC teams. We usually place teams of individuals or “indie teams” into lower divisions to give you a chance to play the game effectively as a team.

What are the sign-up deadlines for sports?

All BSSC leagues and clinics are first-come/first-serve. Teams in existing leagues are given until one month prior to commit to returning to play the next session before we accept new teams. Some leagues sell out 5-6 weeks in advance, so we recommend that teams and individuals register as soon as you know you can play. On the other hand, there might be space as late as the league’s start date, so give us a call.
