Soccer Leagues Overview

Want to break a sweat and get that heart rate up? Come play soccer in Massachusetts’ largest adult recreational soccer program! BSSC hosts over 5,000 games and 1,300 teams annually on premier soccer fields throughout Greater Boston. With coed, men’s and women’s soccer leagues and dozens of start dates each month, we have something for players of all genders, skill levels, schedules and locations. Whether you played in college and high school, or have less experience and prefer a lower division, we have a league for you. Register your own full team, sign up as an individual, or join with just a few friends who want to play together, and we’ll round out a solid team for you for the season.

BSSC’s indoor 7v7 soccer leagues play on well-maintained turf fields at facilities in Bedford & Winchester with leagues starting in November & January, or you can play at the state of the art “TRACK” at New Balance in Brighton from April to October. BSSC also offers 5v5 futsal in the winter, played on a basketball court with a smaller, heavier, low bounce futsal ball, giving players an intimate environment to develop fine footwork and fast play decision making. These gyms are located in Belmont, Brookline, Cambridge, South End and Waltham.

BSSC’s outdoor soccer leagues play on synthetic grass to ensure the highest quality playing conditions. Formats include 7v7 and 11v11, with locations in Bedford, Boston, Brighton, Fenway, Medford, Somerville, Waltham, Watertown, Winchester and more. There are over 20 options to choose from, with new leagues starting every month April through November.

Space is very limited in many leagues, so don’t delay!

Soccer players must wear BSSC jerseys. They are included in your team fee.  The color will be assigned by the program manager.  They are $6 each and you will be invoiced for any above the allotted amounts listed below.

5v5, 6v6 & 7v7 Leagues –  10 jerseys
11v11 Leagues – 15 jerseys

Things to know

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of cleats can I wear?

We do not allow the use of metal spikes (aka “soft ground” cleats).  All “firm ground,” turf cleats, indoor soccer shoes and running shoes are acceptable and appropriate options.

What if the weather is bad – When will you cancel my game?

You should always be ready to play! Cancellations depend upon the playability of a field, the risk of lightning, and/or an edict of the permitting authority – not whether it is raining or snowing. We use a lot of turf or synthetic grass fields, so games are rarely cancelled. In general, Softball & Kickball games are not cancelled until fields become “unplayable”. In winter, snow may dictate cancellations due to school closings, un-plowed parking lots, or if overall conditions become problematic.

Because conditions & weather can change quickly in New England, we make updates as necessary (24/7). We suggest you check before heading out to your league. Cancellation notices are emailed to all rostered league players when a decision is made, and a message is posted to our weather cancellation phone line, 617.789.4070, ext. 700.

I played in school – Will I find BSSC leagues competitive?

BSSC offers all levels of competition. For most sports, multiple levels are available within the same league. Advanced to low intermediate divisions are often specified for popular leagues like Soccer, Softball, Football, and Volleyball. Speak with the BSSC program manager about your sport for help finding the best match for your skills and experience.

Can I play a particular position on the team?

Probably, but we don’t actually coordinate how things work within your team. Once you meet everyone at the first game, you can work it out amongst yourselves. Indie teams are friendly and welcoming.  Please let the BSSC sports manager know if you’d like to help out by being team captain, or can play goalie or pitcher!

What are the sign-up deadlines for sports?

All BSSC leagues and clinics are first-come/first-serve. Teams in existing leagues are given until one month prior to commit to returning to play the next session before we accept new teams. Some leagues sell out 5-6 weeks in advance, so we recommend that teams and individuals register as soon as you know you can play. On the other hand, there might be space as late as the league’s start date, so give us a call.
